Time Robot Cai Yingpeng: Focus on micro linear servo drives and fight the key battle of self-research of core components

At present, the development of Chinese Robots is entering a period of rapid growth. According to the latest research report “China Robot market Forecast, 2018-2022″ released by IDC Global Robot Research, the Chinese robot market continues to grow rapidly, with a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) from 2017 to 2022 ( CAGR) reached 26.9%. In 2022, the scale of China’s robot market will reach US$80.52 billion, accounting for 38.3% of the global market.

However, the lack of core components of domestic robots is particularly serious. It has been subject to international giants such as the United States, Japan, and Europe for a long time. The dependence on imports makes the cost of domestic robots relatively high, and it is difficult to develop the whole machine industry and downstream integrated applications. The localization of core components is a necessary stage for the robot market, and it is also a key area supported by the state. The integration of core components such as servo motors, reducers and controllers may be a new trend in the development of robots in the future.

Founded in May 2016, Beijing Inshi Robotics Technology Co., Ltd. is positioned as a supplier of core Robot Components and intelligent operation solutions. The company’s core team comes from Beihang Robotics Research Institute. The company’s core products, miniature linear servo drives and dexterous hands, have been successfully applied in robotics, prosthetics, medical and Industrial fields, and have applied for dozens of domestic and foreign invention patents, and won the national high-tech enterprise, Recognized as Zhongguancun Young Eagle Talent Enterprise and Zhongguancun Golden Seed Enterprise.

Before the establishment of Yinshi Robot, Cai Yingpeng has been rooted in the field of robotics for nearly 10 years. At the beginning, he mainly worked as an ODM (original design manufacturer) for complete machines; in the process of system integration, he discovered the gap between domestic core components and the When the opportunity arises, Time Robot was established, focusing on the development of core components and products. Micro linear servo drives and human-like five-fingered dexterous hands are its flagship products.

What is the underlying logic of growth over time? What are the difficulties and characteristics of its core product servo drive? What is the current status of the development of the Robot Industry? With these questions in mind, Titanium Media conducted an in-depth interview with Cai Yingpeng.

The following content is the transcript of the interview between TMTPost and Cai Yingpeng, with some deletions:

TMTPost: Before the establishment of Yinshi, what were your main jobs?

Cai Yingpeng: I entered the industry relatively early. From 2007 to 2008, I participated in the Robocon Robot Competition in MEI of Beijing University of Science and Technology; in 2008, I went to the Beihang Robotics Institute to study for a master’s degree; in 2009, I established a robot studio with my roommates in the dormitory and started to do ODM (Original Design Manufacturer) item. In 2012, I registered my first company, and I also developed various customized robot systems, such as power inspection robots in substations, teaching robots, service robots, military and other special application robots. By the end of 2015, it was decided to start the transformation.

TMTPost: What are the factors that made you decide the cause or transformation?

Cai Yingpeng: ODM is a project system, which cannot be expanded and has limited development space. Of course, it has accumulated a lot of project experience and industry resources. It is also in the process of system integration that it is found that the micro-miniature integrated linear servo system belongs to the blank market in China and can be applied to many places, which is a good entry point. The company’s transformation from ODM to its own products and brands has also brought me some personal changes: in addition to business and technical docking with the project party, I was also doing technology development on the front line; The technical level is withdrawn, and more is doing corporate strategy and management.

TMTPost: At the technical level, what are your areas of expertise?

Cai Yingpeng: Electromechanical control system. The earliest is to do wheeled mobile robots, including motor-driven, multi-sensor fusion positioning, navigation, and planning algorithms; later, distributed control and intelligent decision-making systems for swarm robots, and motion control algorithms for articulated robots.
